It was refreshingly nice to wake up to the soothing sound of rain yesterday morning. I frittered away some time in Electric Quilt playing with Shirt Stripe boxes instead of sewing them. I just wanted to see how four panels of my one would look all together. Do you see that big block of 3″ squares in the middle? Rats! That was not my intention. Do I feel like ripping the blocks apart? No, not really. Sigh. It is a beach quilt after all.
Maybe this will make me feel better? It’s my husband’s favorite! Every year I freeze a bunch of cooked squash for pie throughout the year. Usually it’s butternut squash, but I have been known to try other sweet orange varieties as well. Then I use my Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie recipe. It is a little lighter on the spices and a little heavier on the cream. Gary says it’s the best. Who am I to argue?

It’s laundry time! Mom has returned home, my sister-in-law is coming for the weekend and the cat barfed on the sofa (we have a slip-covered sofa so it can be washed). There’s LOTS of laundry needing to be done.
And… it’s time to draw a name for the Easy Star & Geese ruler. The handy Random Number Generator says it’s…
Amanda, please send me your postal address and I will send the ruler to you. Now, let’s see if we can let the dust settle a little and return to our regular schedule around here.
How’s your recycled clothing project coming along? Mine won’t be finished in August either. That’s okay. We can still continue to work on them. I know I will.

These four sections four more times. This section measures approximately 36″ x 33″. Don’t forget to share photos of your own progress on the Reclaimed Clothing Quilt-Along group on Flickr.

While Mom is cruising to Alaska, I’m finally getting around to cutting and sewing a few more Shirt-Stripe Boxes. This time I made a few 6-inch blocks. Next up are the 3-inch blocks. I’m still not sure about how many blocks I’m going to get out of these shirts or how big the quilt will be. We shall just have to wait and see.
When Amy over at Mrs. Schmenkman Quilts mentioned that Kaffe quote about not getting too fiddly with matching up the stripes, I had to go read the book and see if he said anything there too. (I rarely read the words in quilting books. Gasp!)
“Don’t go crazy trying to match the stripe seams perfectly, though. Let them wiggle a little – this is supposed to be fun.”
Okay. There you have it. Let them wiggle!
Like Amy, I’m also using the Companion Angle to cut out the triangles. We used this ruler quite a bit in the Medallion Quilt-Along too. It’s another one of my favorite tools. It hasn’t always been a favorite, but it’s grown on me over time. And now I love it!
So… let’s have another give-away this week. Tell us what you are letting wiggle this summer. (Your kids??? I was always a wiggler growing up.) One chance to win per person. I’ll draw a name on Wednesday, August 26 and the lucky winner will receive this handy-dandy all-in-one Easy Star & Geese ruler. It works just like the Easy Angle and Companion Angle only it’s one ruler instead of two. I know you’re gonna love it!
What’s been allowed to wiggle this summer for me? Sheesh, just about everything. I’ve done nearly no weeding at all in the flower beds, the floors have been a little more dirty, and remember those 10 extra pounds? Yup, still there. Some things are going to have to change in September! (I think my camera needs to be cleaned too. Every photo looks sort of grainy.)

I have to confess that I haven’t worked even an inch of my beach quilt since last week. Mom has been keeping me busy with shopping and going here & there, which has been fun, but not conducive to sewing on my Shirt Stripes. Tomorrow I’m dropping Mom off for a cruise to Alaska. And then I will come back to my sewing. I promise.
Here is the lazy, scribble names on a piece of paper, sloppy cutting, throw ’em in a bowl drawing for the Quilter’s Pocket Reference booklet. Mom drew a name. And the lucky winner is…
Rebecca of Don’t Call Me Becky
Rebecca, please send me your postal address and I will drop the booklet in the mail. As for the rest of you lovely people, do not dismay, I will have another drawing next week when I have more Shirt Stripe progress to report. And I apologize for not being able to answer everyone’s comments. I tried. But I failed to finish. Some of you left some great recycling comments! Thank you! You made me smile.
