The Cosmo Bag

It’s not all knitting around here. There is still some sewing going on too!  Some of Amy Butler’s new fabric arrived at work and I just had to make a bag.  This is the Cosmo Bag from her book Style Stitches.  It’s huge! And that’s just what I wanted, a giant, humongous bag.

side pockets for tall things

The pattern was great, although a few more pictures in the instructions would have been helpful. In a couple of spots I felt like I was moving forward blind.  And because it is so huge, it’s an interfacing hog! Every single piece has interfacing fused to it.  I took a couple of shortcuts and left the interfacing off of the second layer of the pocket linings and I used up a lot of odd pieces of interfacing I had laying around. I ran out of the mid-weight interfacing used in the body of the bag and switched to heavy weight in the handles.  Who likes wimpy, saggy handles anyway. Right?

To make the bottom a little stiffer, I stitched a leftover piece of Timtex to the bottom layer of fabric.  It should keep it’s shape quite well.
