Nothing but Scraps!
While I’m trying to decide what to do with my Scrappy Lone Star from Judy Irish’s class, I decided to make a Mini Star. Most of my scraps are small pieces so this was a perfect match!
The finished size is approximately 27-inches square. And… ALL scraps. No new fabric was harmed in the making of this quilt. (I love saying that!) Including the batting, backing & binding.

SO…. I’ve decided to give this one away. Yup! That’s right! It could be yours!
In honor of all scrappy goodness… and February being my blog anniversary… and because you all are SO great… I am going to give this mini quilt to one lucky reader. All you have to do is tell me what you are making with your scraps in the comments.

I loved the photo you showed earlier of this quilt, who could resist brights with some black/cream! I have 3 current projects on the go and my next for me quilt will be a “king scrapper”, probably a star/triangle combo with a scrap border and scrap binding – it’ll be rights with a fair dose of black and white. I have to tell you that your blog is what got me started blogging. I am a knitter and a quilter and I hadn’t realized that there were others out htere like me.
I am currently make some applique building blocks using as much of my scrap as possible.

I’m afraid I have no scraps. I send them to my mother-in-law to use. She loves to make scrap quilts and my scraps are a little atypical for her so she enjoys the little bit of zip they give her quilts.

beautiful – this has always been a favorite of mine. i have a quilt peiced by my great-grandmother – Mamaw – and quilted by my best friend from high school in this pattern.
My scraps will probably be made into crazy blocks, right now they are in the “collecting” stage. I don’t technique names, but just kind of throw them down and sew and then cut out the shape I want.

I have been making pot holders and pin cushions with my scraps. Your lone star is a much better use of them., I love it!!!!!

Oh boy, I have been admiring that star for weeks and contemplating making one of my own! Currently my scraps are going towards a string quilt that has been in the works for awhile, the never ending project.

I’m actually using up my scraps at the minute – me and my friend are making something quilty, but it’s slightly secret. And those patchwork scottie dogs, I think I need a whole dog pound full. I WILL get those darn scraps used up, if it kills me.

Honestly, I have not made a thing with my scraps, in fact, I just keep adding to them….it is a problem I have….but soon….I will start a project! I am really hoping I win this!! Love it.
Slowly I have been turning my scraps into scrappy string blocks which will one day (probably far into the future) be pieced to make a king size quilt.

oh my scraps — my favorite thing to do with scraps is crib quilts. — it is always a joy to make something new with ‘this and that’ from other projects.

Apparently you have not come to your senses between uploading to Flickr and posting your blog, so I have no choice but to throw my hat into the ring because, well, I just LOVE this star. Love it. I’m making fabric postage stamps from my scraps (for my fabric valentine envelopes!). There’s a tute on my blog today.

Most of my scraps are going towards a ticker tape quilt. I also like to sew small scraps together and then sew it onto a greeting card, I usually pop one into my swap parcels.

What a beautiful mini! Right now I have my scraps cut into 1.5 inch blocks and I am using them as Leaders and Enders. I’m also saving strings to make a string quilt.

Right now, my scraps are sitting patiently in their scrap bin waiting to be used in an applique project. They might be waiting a while since I am currently in the process of making another (not scrappy) quilt and seem to be just adding more and more scraps to the bin!

My last scrap quilt was a log cabin made from left overs from a few breast cancer quilts I gave away. The scraps gave me a nice memory. Your quilt turned out so well. The brights look great against that background.
Anita, the quilt is fantastic!!! Hurray for using up scraps! I’ve been working on my scraps, too. I’m making a scrap quilt made up of 5″ (unfinished) pieced blocks….the challenge, especially for me, I’m not using any plain white. It’s been fun. I still have a long way to go to make it into a lap quilt. And no shortage of scraps to use. 🙂

Gorgeous and generous – what a gal! My scraps are being guarded by the cats as they think the bin is “just right” for a nap spot. The teeny scraps are being used by the squirrel family to build an addition. I have been crocheting the scraps into coasters. Have a great week!

I’m working out of the book -Quilting with Strips and Strings – by Helen Whitson Rose. Currently i’ve got blocks for Twilight and windmills going in addition my sister http://www.pickingdandelions.com and I are both going to work on string stars and going to just go through this book until we can get rid of the scraps. ( or greatly reduce.) I have also finished 3 toothbrush rugs and am working on the 4th. I bought a bit of “skull” fabric to finish a specific quilt , but all the rest will come from scraps and strings. your work is beautiful , as ever. . thanks for the inspiration!

That’s gorgeous! I love it! I don’t really “save” my scraps for anything but I try to use them up as I go along. Usually they find their way into things like quilted coasters, or I use them for applique shapes on kid t-shirts, or I just started making cards with fabric appliques, and they work great for that!

I’ve been working on some quilted potholders that don’t require binding. It hasn’t worked out very well but I’m trying new techniques and hopefully I’ll get a good result soon.
January was a big scrap sewing month for me. I made a wallhanging, a tablerunner, potholders and a snippets baby quilt all out ouf my scraps (and I still have a bunch of scraps left.)

I love the vibrant colors and the black outline just makes the star pop.
I recently got two bags of old neckties and have taken them apart. Now I am just trying to find a pattern I like. I think this made of the ties with some black would be awesome!

I used my scrap basket on my DQS8 quilt. But my mind is too amazed at what you made here to even think properly. That quilt is epic. EPIC!

Seriously, I’m working on a scrappy Kaffe top and a pinwheel baby quilt at the moment.
I’m making a string quilt from a large bag of scraps that somebody gave me (of course I have scraps of my own but these were different!) and I sew and I sew and I sew and the bag never empties……….

Ihave been using all my scraps in string blocks – which I have finally made enough blocks to make a top. TODAY!! yay. Love your mini quilt.
