The Beach, A Birthday, & A Broken Kite String
September 30, 2007 § 1 Comment
Last year at about this time we headed to the beach for a few days of sleeping in late, schlepping around in our slippers, knitting, reading, and generally being lazy. It was so good that we decided to do it again this year. There is certainly something to be said for giving yourself a few guilt-free days of laziness.
A dark and stormy afternoon.
The first couple of days were beautiful! The fore-casted rain didn’t come until the day we left. The day before was gray, windy, and calling for a kite to be launched. We finally gave in and took the parastunter out. Not the best decision we’ve ever made. The lines were tangled as we unrolled them. The wind was gusty, making it nearly impossible to untangle them. Sand was in my face, my mouth, my socks, everywhere. Then one line broke. Dejected, we grabbed the kite, the bundle of tangled line and headed back to the house. I should have taken a picture of the kite line all over the living room and the knot that refused to detangle. But I didn’t. Several hours later, Gary finally tossed the whole line in the garbage. It’s new kite line for this kite!
One night we celebrated with mushroom risotto. And another, we celebrated my birthday with Sweet Potato Fries and Chocolate Layer Cake at Sam’s. Yes, another year celebrating the anniversary of my 29th birthday. I
can’t don’t want to count how many anniversaries that’s been. *grin* Let’s just say, I think I’m due a mid-life crisis sometime soon.

Knitting was done, books were read, and slippers were worn and it was wonderful. The house was great. It was only a couple of blocks from the beach but many, many blocks from the main City Center… the quite side of town. And this neon light made it easy to find the fridge for a midnight snack or two. No stubbing of toes required.
Tonight, it’s laundry and gearing up for re-entry into the usual routine. More on the knitting progress later.
